An
Environmental
Audit
consists
of
the
review
of
the
legal,
corporate
and
technical
compliance
of
a
company,
considering
all
aspects
related
to
the
environment
and
to
the
potential
existence
of
liabilities,
which
may
represent
future
losses
for
the
organization,
should
they
be
requested
to
cover
environmental
indemnifications
claimed
by
third
parties
or
by
environmental
agencies.
The
Environmental
Audit
process
is
divided
into
two
phases,
namely
Phase
I
and
Phase
II.
|
|
| |
A
Phase
I
Environmental
Audit
encompasses
the
following
activities:
·
Document
review
of
permits,
grants
and
history
of
relationship
with
the
local
environmental
agencies,
and
survey
of
areas
susceptible
to
environmental
impacts
directly
caused
by
the
audited
company.
-
Field
survey,
conducted
by
experienced
and
skilled
professionals,
qualified
to
identify
and
quantify
potential
environmental
liabilities.
During
this
survey,
interviews
with
employees
are
also
conducted
in
order
to
identify
current
and
past
practices
with
the
potential
to
harm
natural
resources
and
to
generate
liabilities.
- Should
suggestions
of
the
presence
of
environmental
liabilities
be
observed,
the
Environmental
Audit
moves
to
the
Phase
II,
which
employs
quantitative
tools
for
the
assessment
of
environmental
impacts,
with
the
collection
of
soil,
groundwater
and/or
surface
water
samples
for
chemical
analyses.
For
industrial
sites,
an
inventory
of
the
stored
and
generated
wastes
is
also
prepared,
the
air
emission
parameters
of
the
existing
sources
are
evaluated,
and
the
wastewater
streams
generated
in
the
various
production
processes
are
identified.
|
| |
|
In
both
Phases
(I
and
II),
an
Environmental
Audit
Report
is
prepared,
summarizing
the
auditors'
findings
and
recommendations
for
environmental
compliance.
Cost
estimates
related
to
the
recommendations
are
also
proposed.
ARQUIPÉLAGO
